Upcoming info Session on the Beatitudes Society, 10/6 at 5pm (with free pizza)
Are you passionate about peace and justice?
Are you passionate about FREE dinner?
If so, I encourage you to attend an informational session on the Beatitudes Society on Monday, 10/6 at 5pm in Rm. 105.
The Beatitudes Society develops and sustains emerging Christian leaders at seminaries as they study, teach and practice the prophetic wisdom of Jesus as expressed in the beatitudes.
It provides paid summer internships, exciting conferences, $1000 in seed money to start a chapter at your seminary and pertinent updates on issues affecting the nation and the world.
Learn more at www.beatitudessociety.org
As some of you know, I took part in the Beatitudes Summer Fellowship last summer and got paid good money to work for a sweet local nonprofit.  It's a really great organization that could help Garrett students put our faith into action!
If you're interested in learning more, I hope to see you on Monday.  (if you plan to attend, please RSVP so we know how much pizza to order!)
Thanks and peace,
Brit

E-mail Jake Weber's to receive "Holy Land" Newsletter
G-ETS Student Body,

Greetings!  I hope all of you are doing well and having a great start to the school year.
As some of you are aware, I recently have been accepted to work as a missionary, peace intern in the "Holy Land" for about 9 months.  I am excited for the experience and looking forward to the work I believe God is leading me to do.  If things continue to go as plan, I will be leaving on Sept. 24th and returning sometime in May.  If you would like to receive a monthly Newletter from me, please e-mail right away so I can put you on the list.  Several students had mentioned that they wanted to stay in touch with me, but the list became too numerous that I was unable to keep track of everyone.  For those of you who do respond to this message, please share it with others and let them know as well.  Also, at any time during the year if you hear someone saying they would like to receive my Newletter, please contact me and let me know or have them e-mail.
The e-mail address I will be using is: jake.weber@garrett.edu
Thanks and I hope all of you have a great year!

Yours Truly,

Jake Weber

Good Deed Foundation Cell Phone Collection
Hello All!

At the main desk you'll find a box for old cell phones being collected by the Good Deed Foundation

Here's some info!

Good Deed Foundation Cell Phone Collection
Recycle your cell phone
Bring your old cell phones and chargers to the collection box at the front desk of the seminary.   Collect phones from friends and family!
There are over 130 million cell phones retired every year in the U.S., and fewer than 26 million get recycled.  Where are yours?
Ø      Each cell phone recycled helps prevent about 66 pounds of CO2 from entering the atmosphere.
Ø      Recycling just one million cell phones reduces greenhouse gas emissions equal to taking 1,368 cars off the road for one year.
Ø      Recycling all 100 million cell phones ready for end of life management would save enough energy to power more than 194,000 U.S. households with electricity for one year.
Every cell phone recycled at www.GoodDeedFoundation.org <http://www.gooddeedfoundation.org/>  earns funds to help create lasting solutions for women and families in poverty <http://www.gooddeedfoundation.org/poverty>  and climate change <http://www.gooddeedfoundation.org/climate_change> .
Church Women United is one of the sponsoring groups for this drive.  The project  has come to us from First Congregational Church UCC, where our Ph.D. student Stephanie Perdew is pastor and Ruth Duck is a member.

Dr. Duck has brought us a great opportunity participate this ministry and we hope you'll consider joining in!
